Week 5 Waiver Wire Grabs

Another week is in the books. We’ve officially made it a quarter of the way through the season. This week is relatively underwhelming for the waiver wire. AJ Brown played well, but I still don’t trust the quarterback, Darrell Williams won’t be involved much longer once the other Williams gets back. There are some deep dives we can go over, but nothing particularly exciting.

Running Backs:

Darrell Williams, Kansas City Chiefs – 30% owned. He had two touchdowns at the goal line. If you take those out, he was disappointing on the day. It was a bad game for Mahomes though (if you consider his floor ‘bad’). He’s worth owning until Damien comes back. Don’t break the bank. I would not spend more than $5 and I would not be using my number one priority for him.

Ronald Jones II, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 43% owned. I mentioned him week one, and this might be your last chance. He’s not very involved in the passing game, with only one target, but he got 14 touches in week 1, 15 in week 3, and 20 this past week. The work is there, in what looks to be a high scoring offense coming into his own. There will be bad games, but he should serve as a serviceable low end RB2 in your line ups for the rest of season. I would spend a little more to secure Jones at about the $12 mark. Yes, I do see him worth a number one waiver priority.

Jaylen Samuels - James Conner has an ankle injury currently being evaluated. If he misses any sort of time Samuels is a weekly starter. 10-20% of your FAAB is worth it if you need a guy now.

Wide Receivers:

Cole Beasley, Buffalo Bills – % owned. He was 7 for 75 and has scored about 14 PPR points over the past three weeks. He won’t win you your week, but he won’t lose it. He’ll be a good wide receiver to plug in play with more bye weeks on the horizon. If you’re desperate for a guy to plug in, maybe pay $6? I personally don’t think he is worth more than that 3 to 4 range. No, he is not worth priority either.

Geronimo Allison, Green Bay Packers – 27% owned. With Adams expected to miss a little time, Allison is at the very least a low end WR2 with a safe floor because his QB is Aaron Rodgers. Him and MVS can’t trade good weeks anymore, they’ll both have to produce in game against the Cowboys which should put up some points. I’d spend about $3 dollars and would consider using my number one priority if I was desperate.

Tight End:

Tyler Eifert, Cincinnati Bengals – 17% owned. It’s a meme now, but whichever tight end plays the Cardinals is always worth a pickup. There will be no victory lap for me mentioning it, I just need it in writing that I mentioned it. Spend $5, and a number one priority if and only if you need a tight end this week.

Defense / Special Teams:

Eagles D/ST – 42% owned. They get the Jets with Luke Falk behind center this week. Le’Veon Bell is currently trying to carry the Jets with their unfortunate quarterback situation. The Eagles are a top five run defense this season. If Bell can’t get going Falk will have to go through the air and I don’t know if he can do that. I would start the Eagles D/ST this week with full confidence.
