Jack Doyle, Underrated 2020 Option?
If it was Antonio Gates or Hunter Henry, Philip Rivers has a history of using the tight end position. Through 4 different head coaches, one thing has remained true – Rivers will use his tight ends. What’s even better, a cherry on the top, Frank Reich has used his tight ends in his offense over his past two seasons with the Colts.
Over the last two seasons:
- Eric Ebron was 4th in targets in 2018
- Eric Ebron was 1st in touchdowns in 2018
- Jack Doyle was 13th in targets in 2019
- Jack Doyle was 15th in touchdowns in 2019
The difference over the two seasons was a change at QB, from Luck to Brissett. Now that Rivers has taken over, and Eric Ebron is out of town, Doyle becomes an intriguing tight end target. He is currently being drafted at 13.10 as the 17th tight end off the board. Unfortunately, we do not know his week 1 match up but Doyle plays the Texans twice, Titans twice, Vikings and Bears who all were plus match ups for the tight end position in 2019. If your plan is to punt the position in drafts, I think Doyle is a find draft pick to start streaming the position and should be on your radar.
