David Johnson is Basically Free Value?

David Johnson is a Houston Texan as of last week in a joke of a trade for Deandre Hopkins. My initial thought was ‘keep me away’. For Dynasty Leagues I still think this is true, I would sell now and enjoy whatever you get for him. In redraft though, I find David Johnson as a value play with his current ADP. 7.02, being drafted around Sony Michel and Tevin Coleman, David Johnson is first, the best of those 3 options, should see the most of his team's opportunity share in comparison to those two, and is attached to the best QB of the three.

The Carlos Hyde/Lamar Miller Case:

In Half PPR Formats,

- Carlos Hyde finished as the RB23 in 2019

- Lamar Miller finished as the RB23 in 2018

- Lamar Miller finished as the RB13 in 2017

- Hyde received 16 targets in 2019

- Miller received 35 targets in 2018

Without a massive target share, both running backs have seen success in Houston’s offense. Now David Johnson who is 4 years removed from one of the best fantasy running back seasons of all time is taking over.

The worry for Johnson? I feel O’Brien doesn’t get the most from his RBs. Even Duke Johnson only received 62 targets last season, which is what he is best at. With such a low-price tag though in the coming season it’s hard not to bite on Johnson. If Lamar Miller at a 5th or 6th round price tag, why not draft David Johnson as the 28th RB off the board in an offense where Carlos Hyde finished as the RB23.
